The Next Season is Brewing: Letters from Our Recruitment Directors
Hi everyone!
My name is Ashi, I’m a Fall ‘23 baby, and I’m one of the Recruitment Directors of Texas Bluebonnets for the Fall 2026 semester!
Experiencing recruitment as both a recruit and active has been one of the most magical things about my UT experience so far. I came to UT my freshman year as an out of state student who was born and raised in a small town and had been surrounded by the same people since kindergarten. I knew barely anyone on the 40 acres and felt really intimidated by the process of meeting new people on such a large campus. After hearing about TXBB on social media, I decided to go to an info session on a whim and little did I know that it was the best decision I could have made for myself in college.
I’ll never forget how comfortable I was made to feel at that first info session and all the following recruitment events. The TXBB community truly felt like it wanted to get to know me as much as I wanted to get to know them- so much so that I spent A LOT of time talking about things that felt authentic to me like my endless love for One Direction, trolling on roblox, and my secret toilet rating account in high school (it’s back by popular demand guys…).
The TXBB community ended up giving me something so beautifully familiar to what I had back home, in that it made me feel like I had a group of people who I could depend on and had known me for life even though it hadn’t been nearly that long. I see this in random acts of kindness from my fellow bloobs, like my little Jasmine bringing me boba at my first info session as a recruitment director and my friend Holly coming to pick me up from the airport at ungodly hours.
The people I’ve met through TXBB have been there for me through it all, whether it was crashing out about Organic Chemistry exams together, surprising each other on birthdays, or visiting each other’s hometowns. When I reflect on my past three years of college and think about who I am now compared to who I was when I was 18, I owe the person I am today to TXBB and the people in this organization who constantly pushed me to be the best version of myself.
If you’re thinking about recruiting for a spirit org here at UT, just know that the best things you can do for yourself are to stay true to who you are (toilet instagrams and all!) and not be afraid to take a chance on something that might seem scary! I met some of my closest friends simply through the process of recruitment so remember to have fun and not take things too seriously! TXBB and anyone on campus would be so extremely lucky to have the privilege and opportunity to get to know you <3

My name is Melinda, I’m a Fall ‘24 baby, and I’m one of the Recruitment Directors of Texas Bluebonnets for the Fall 2026 semester!
I recruited my freshman fall at UT. I remember walking into my first info session at Gearing Hall, nervous but excited, unsure of what to expect. I immediately felt the community, support, and energy unique to TXBB. Every day since then, I have been endlessly grateful for this community.
TXBB has given me countless new experiences: jumping off the top of the barge boat with my big and little, exploring the Texas-OU state fair in Dallas, and rock climbing with eight other bluebonnets at 7 AM while watching the sun rise. As Recruitment Director, I reflect a lot on what this org means to me. I’ve come to the conclusion that if Inside Out is an accurate depiction of your brain, then the TXBB island is always alive and colorful (iykyk).
TXBB is a beautiful community where everyone feels like family, even if I’ve just met them. It’s the kind of love that is hard to put into words, but it shows when our faces light up after spotting one another on campus, in quiet afternoons sunbathing on the lawn together, and in the baked goods we make for each other.
Over the semesters, I’ve realized that my favorite thing about the org is how much I admire other bloobs. Not only is their positive energy and laughter contagious, but they have incredible dedication to their passions, drive for success, and, most importantly, uphold the highest of character. Being surrounded by these amazing people has reshaped who I am. I’m constantly learning from them - trying to greet everyone with the same warm energy that Cate has, listen with Laci’s genuine compassion, and embody Shrita’s ability to somehow do it all with grace.
I can’t wait to tell my kids about Aunt Natalie, who remembered every exam I had and always sent a good luck message, or Aunt Rhea, who could have everyone dying laughing in seconds.
Bluebonnets is more than an organization. It’s meeting your future bridesmaids, it’s cheering each other on through life, it’s trying things you never would have done otherwise.
For all the recruits, just know that I was there once too - nervously walking into Gearing Hall, trying to find a community. Just remember to be kind to yourself, take a deep breath, and enjoy the process. At the end of the day, don’t overthink it. Recruitment should be (and will be) fun! Whether you end up joining TXBB or not, there’s zero downside to putting yourself out there, making new friendships, and learning from new experiences.
